VP of Discovery Biology

Company Profile:

The company is a clinical-stage company focused on the discovery and development of innovative small molecules for the treatment of solid tumors, hematological malignancies, auto-immune diseases as well as inflammatory disorders through novel-generation solutions including targeted protein ubiquitination and degradation.
Led by a highly experienced and dedicated management team, the company has built a rich and solid pipeline of potential first-in-class and best-in-class drug candidates.
The company has also developed a proprietary drug combination technology for the treatment of metastatic and non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.
Now we are seeking a talented and enthusiastic professional to lead our discovery biology as we are moving forward into the nextstage of development.

Position Description:

Help define the strategic direction of Drug Discovery and Development. The successful candidate will lead the Discovery Biology function in the development and utilization of biochemical and cellular assays, in vivo tumor models, as well as biomarker development to support the company’s drug discovery and translational research, tumor type selection, and clinical development efforts.
A demonstrated track record of leading research groups that have moved compounds into the clinic is a requisite.
A strong team player and leader, who enjoys scientific discovery and can communicate and collaborate in an interdisciplinary and fast-paced biotech environment is essential.
The individual will make important contributions to our molecular and pharmacological understanding of dysregulated translation and the identification of important new therapeutics.
This will include considerable opportunities to influence broader research strategies across both discovery and development.

Responsibilities:

Development of a cohesive cancer biology strategy which informs development candidate selection as well as tumor type selection based on preclinical pharmacology.
Leadership of the Biology group and function in support of development candidate selection and entry into and support of clinical trials.
Providing scientific expertise and leadership to Discovery Biology. A primary focus and experience in the oncology therapeutic area is preferred.
Maintaining open and active communication with multi-disciplinary groups including DMPK, Toxicology, Clinical, and Chemistry.
Development and validation of animal models to evaluate the efficacy of small molecule drug candidates and to facilitate selection of relevant tumor typesfor clinical evaluation.
Design, development, and execution of in vitro biochemical and cell-based assays in support of drug discovery and development.
Design and execution of PK/PD/biomarkerstudies of candidate drugsin animal tumor models.
Document, organize/interpret data, and present results.
Actively assisting in seeking research and/or technology alliances with appropriate academia, government and industry partners.

Qualifications:

PhD in appropriate biological sciences discipline with at least 5 years industry experience with a successful track record in the discovery of novel therapeutics, in Cancer Biology or Immunology/Inflammation.
Comprehensive knowledge of current practicesin in vitro and in vivo pharmacology research.
A broad knowledge and proven ability to develop disease models for PK/PD and efficacy studies with a desire and experience in translating new biology into viable therapeutics a plus.
Experience with xenografts,syngeneic, and leukemia oncology models preferred.
Expertise in assay development, automation of assays, pre-steady state and steady state enzyme kinetics. Experience in determining mechanism of inhibition and the use of biophysical methods to understand small molecule binding and affinity
Experience writing and submitting reportsin support of regulatory submissions(INDs).
Representing the company both internally and externally with both the scientific and business communities.

Proven track record of successful scientific accomplishments, exemplified by patents, public presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
